We at Uniworld take pride in providing our guests with unforgettable getaways to the most beautiful spots around the globe. We also take pride in our commitment to eco-friendly business and travel practices that will help keep those spots beautiful—and the earth’s life-giving resources safe—for generations of travelers to come. At Uniworld, we are committed to doing our part, alongside our passengers, to protect the environment by ensuring we minimize the environmental impact of our operations around the world. We believe that, together, we can truly make a difference.
In order to reduce our energy consumption, carbon emissions, and waste production, we’ve instituted an ambitious, multi-faceted “green policy” throughout our company. In our corporate offices, we’ve installed more efficient lighting, set up better recycling facilities, created environmentally friendly procurement guidelines and energy-saving IT policies, and established an environmental education and involvement program for our staff members. Uniworld reviews its environmental performance on an ongoing basis and is committed to fostering continuous improvement company-wide.
Uniworld also strives to help its local communities and has introduced a staff volunteer program whereby each staff member volunteers for a local charity of their choice two days a year. In addition, the company supports a range of charities throughout the year. Uniworld is also committed to fostering sustainable tourism in communities around the world, and we're committed to improving our guests' awareness of their individual footprints while on vacation and ways they can shrink their own environmental impact while traveling.
The Foundation
To show our commitment, our parent company has set up The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation, a non-profit organization that invests in supporting long term sustainable tourism.
The foundation contributes USD $1 million per year to fund projects that conserve and protect wildlife, the environment, and cultural heritage sites around the world. In addition, the foundation promotes sustainable tourism as a way of fostering economic growth and improving the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities. To ensure that every dollar goes to people and places in need, each project is carefully vetted by the Foundation’s independent Board of Trustees; Uniworld also donates staff time and additional resources to the Foundation.
You Can Make A Difference
We hope that while you’re painting the town red, you don’t stop thinking green.
In the fight against climate change, reducing carbon emissions has to be the top priority—but carbon offsetting is another small but important thing you can do to make a difference. Carbon emissions in the atmosphere are slowing cooking our planet and causing climate change. Reducing these emissions comes down to doing simple things like turning off appliances, driving less, and buying local produce. For those emissions that can’t be reduced, carbon offsetting allows you to contribute to projects that are greening the planet in other ways.
Uniworld has partnered with Sustainable Travel International™, allowing you the option to calculate the carbon footprint of your travel and contribute towards projects that will reduce the C02 emissions in the atmosphere on your behalf. This voluntary scheme invites you to pay a contribution based on the amount of carbon likely to be generated from your travel. You can choose to offset your air travel, coach travel, or the energy consumed staying in your hotel accommodation.
There is a lot you can do to make a difference while traveling. Even simple things like respecting the local culture of the countries you’re visiting and making sure to live a little greener by recycling your rubbish, switching off air-conditioning and lights when they're not needed, and conserving water means the special places you visit will remain unspoiled.
